Spontaneous Adventure to Savannah

Spontaneous Adventure to Savannah

The best type of adventure is one where I have no idea where I’m going to end up. My boyfriend, Bryan picked a place on the map near the east coast and we drove away. The drive from Florida was about 4 hours up to Savannah, Georgia. He chose this place because there is a lot of history here such as slave trading and being one of the most haunted cities in the United States.

Food Substitution Blog: Burgers

Food Substitution Blog: Burgers

Whether or not you agree with this, burgers have become a staple of modern American society. In the Standard American Diet (SAD), a burger with cheese can easily run you over 500 calories. See more nutritional information here that breaks down the number of calories per day a person should have based on gender and age. That’s without fries, a drink, and possibly a dessert. If the daily recommended caloric intake for an average adult is 2000 calories, that’s half or more already in one meal. Think about if a kid is eating the same amount of food as an adult. I’ll let that marinate in your mind for a minute.

Food Substitution Blog: Potato Chips

Food Substitution Blog: Potato Chips

I have a confession to make.

My guilty pleasure when I’m craving something savory is potato chips.

Basically, anything I could put into a dip is game over.

I will eat excessive amounts until past the point where I’m full.

Who knows how many calories I consumed.

Every time this happens, my belly feels empty inside.

Food Substitution Blog: Stir Fry

Food Substitution Blog: Stir Fry

The Food Substitution Blog Series is back!

I don’t know about you, but I love eating stir fry. I enjoy the endless combinations of vegetables, sauces, protein, and noodles (or rice) that can be made into a concoction of deliciousness.

One thing I noticed about eating stir fry is the fact that I feel bloated right after. Then, I feel hungry an hour later and end up craving dessert food. I end up ending the same amount of calories I ate in the stir fry in ice cream.

Food Substitution Blog: Pasta

Food Substitution Blog: Pasta

Pasta is becoming more of a staple food as we evolve in the 21st century.  Now, there are all types of foods from different cultures using pasta as the main source of nutrients in a meal. Pasta is becoming a more versatile food because people can add other vegetables instead of having the traditional pasta, meat, and cheese.

Why Did I Start Cooking?

Why Did I Start Cooking?

Cooking was not always something that came natural to me.

As a child, I naturally wanted to be in the kitchen.

I loved the smell of food.

I was curious about the connection of food from farm to table.

I enjoyed using my hands to create things.

Naturally, I loved watching my mom cook and wanted to learn myself.

However, my mom always shooed me out of the kitchen because of her own fears (My dad worked late so he was never home to cook).

What is Self Acceptance?

What is Self Acceptance?

What does self-acceptance mean?

It means loving every part of yourself whole heartedly for every thought, feeling, and action you make.

It means forgiving yourself and others for past mistakes.

It means owning up to your bull shit stories holding you back and learning from them through the lens of gratitude.

It’s respecting yourself enough to know your worth, regardless of what is projected at you.

This is all with a deeper understanding that you are a soul living inside this exterior shell, your body.

You entered the physical realm with a spiritual contract to achieve your soul’s deeper purpose far greater than anything tangible on this planet.

Food Substitution Blog: Chocolate

Food Substitution Blog: Chocolate

Chocolate is a delicious delicacy that has been around for a long time. It used to be a delicious sweet treat that was made by the most pure cacao plant with some sugar to cut some of the bitterness, and something special added to it like nuts or marshmallows. The cacao plant got in the hands of greedy corporations. Why settle for refined chocolate when you can make your own with 6 unrefined ingredients and have it taste rich and delicious, just like the refined version. Find my recipe for delicious chocolate <"link_to_recipe"> here!

Food Substitution Blog: Ramen

Ramen has been a childhood and college staple for a long time. Who wouldn't want to get a quick, easy meal for less than a dollar?! Do you feel like Ramen is satisfying while you're eating it, but leaves you starving afterwards? I used to eat that stuff at least on a weekly basis before I realized the havoc it was causing to my body.

Transformation

Transformation

Hello,

My name is Rachel and I am a Certified Holistic Health Coach. This is my personal weight loss transformation. These two pictures of me represent two very different people. The person on the left was from 2012. She was in college, her diet consisted of lean cuisines and food from a box, and she wasn’t sleeping very well due to all the hours spent on homework. She was extremely stressed and was not incorporating anything to stimulate relaxation to help counteract the poor diet and lack of sleep. Every weekend, she would go out partying and eat more food afterwards, followed by repeating the whole cycle again. She was tired all the time, bloated, and overall unhappy with her life.

Food Substitution Blog: Mac & Cheese

Food Substitution Blog: Mac & Cheese

If you were a child in the 1990's, you grew up hearing the jingle of Kraft Mac & Cheese. It's the cheesiest, right?! It sounds like a kid-friendly food we all have known to enjoy for decades. Well, if you look at the ingredients, there is not one ounce of real cheese in this product, but instead contains Yellow 5 and other preservatives to give it the cheese texture and flavor.
